Cubewano is exhibiting the world's
lightest and most powerful engines to run on heavy fuel at TADTE
2011.
The British engine maker, which is
exhibiting on Carbon-Based Technology Inc's stand A0612, perfected
its engines as part of the U.S. Army's Class 1 increment 2
programme to develop the next generation of unmanned air vehicles
(UAV).
Craig Fletcher, founder and CEO of
Cubewano, said: "We have developed a heavy fuel engine with a core
weight of less than 1lb per horsepower, which was previously
thought impossible. This ambitious goal was achieved by extreme
optimisation of components and carefully selecting the latest high
tech materials.
"The UAV market is predicted to grow
to be worth nearly $8bn by 2020 based on worldwide military sales,
so we are excited to be introducing our patented engine technology
to the defense market in Asia and hope to secure new partners to
work with during TADTE.
"Being so small and powerful, the engine
also has many non-military applications as well. We are currently
modifying it for use as a range extender in electric vehicles and
developing an ultra-lightweightportable generator that can be
carried by just one person."
Cubewano's range of rotary Wankel
engines is designed to be light, quiet with very low vibration,
running on multiple fuels including heavy fuel
(JP8).
All its engines are fuel injected
with electronic engine management to maximise power, fuel
efficiency, reliability and emissions requirements. They are
developed with field requirements in mind.
Cubewano has developed, manufactured
and tested engines with power ranging from 3hp to 16hp in both air
and liquid cooled variants.
